CPU
The computer is probably the most important piece of hardware within the POS environment. Storing the recorded sales, and holding all the inventory information in a local database, sales figures can readily accessed be analyzed as well as inventory information.

Barcode Scanners reduce the need for staff training on price checking, and eliminates the chances of wrong prices being entered.
Receipt Printers
Receipt printers can be either Thermal Direct or Impact, with either parallel or USB interfaces. All of these options need to be considered, including the computer interface that the printer will be attaching to when purchasing.
Cash Drawers
Cash Drawers are available with differing Note/Coin options, and different sizes. The dimensions of the cash drawer can be an important consideration when either purchasing the cash drawer, or designing the shop counter.
Monitors
Monitors can be either mounted directly on the counter, or recessed within the counter under a glass sheet. When positioned within the counter light reflection needs to be taken into account as powerful halogen lighting can make the screen herd to see from different angles.
